“The Moth” was founded by a writer who wanted to recre­ate the sul­try sum­mer evenings of his native St. Simon’s Island, Geor­gia, where he and a small cir­cle of friends would gather to tell each other their best sto­ries on his friend’s porch.

When he moved to New York he invited friends over to tell and hear sto­ries in an effort to rekin­dle the sense of con­nec­tion he had felt shar­ing sto­ries with friends back home, and “The Moth” was born.

• The Moth Pod­cast — Every week, The Moths folks post some of their favorites sto­ries among the thou­sands of sto­ries they’ve recorded over the last 10 years. Typ­i­cally 5 to 17 min­utes, they’re some­times funny, occa­sion­ally sad, often poignant. Since they’re culled from many years worth of archives, the sound qual­ity varies.

• The Moth Main­stage — Selected sto­ries from the orig­i­nal Moth series.

• The Moth Out­reach — Selected sto­ries from sto­ry­telling work­shops for stu­dents and mar­gin­al­ized adults.

• Sto­ryS­LAMs — Selected sto­ries from Sto­ryS­LAMs, where any­one can get on stage and tell their story.
