Feature focus: Yelp — Quick, easy local business search
A few updates ago, you may have noticed a new app called Yelp. (If not, use Get Apps to get it now!)
Yelp is a powerful, deceptively-simple-looking app for local search. It’s the best way to find nearby businesses, complete with ratings and comments from customers.
What’s near me?
If your phone supports GPS, choose Nearby. (Go on, we’ll wait!)
Like magic, Kinoma Play will show you businesses near you.
Refine the search distance
At the bottom of any search results, you’ll see the distance being searched.
To narrow the search distance, touch the left arrow or press Left on your phone’s 5-way. To widen it, touch the right arrow or press Right.

Want to refine your search? Use Search to enter a search term.
No GPS? No problem
Choose Search, then enter your location in Near.
You can enter anything from a complete address, to a neighborhood (see above), or even just a city.
Even if your phone supports GPS, you can use this feature to help someone else find something and even send them the specifics via SMS or email (see below).
Call it, map it, share it
Once you’ve found a business, select it to see its details. From the details screen, you can easily:
- Map it — Choose the address to see a map
- Call it — Choose the phone number to call it
- Share it — Share the details via SMS or email
- See ratings and reviews — See what other people have to say
- Refine your search — Search for other businesses in similar categories
- Go to its Yelp page — Go to the business’s web page to read all reviews and more
