Kinoma Player 4 EX v4.4 update now available

This update is free for Kinoma Player 4 EX customers. If you don’t yet have Kinoma Player, you can buy it here or upgrade from Kinoma Player 3 here.

How to update

If your Palm smartphone or handheld has an internet connection, just choose Check for updates from the Media menu. Otherwise, you can update from your PC.

We recommend that you get the 4.4 update today. If you have questions or comments, please let us know in our forums.

New features

  • Search! For the first time, search for radio stations, videos and images right within the Kinoma Media Guide. You can search for Clear Channel and other U.S. radio stations, for videos on YouTube and Google Video, and for images using Yahoo! Image Search.

  • Kinoma Player now has better “lights off” performance when streaming. For some, Kinoma Player used to re-buffer streaming audio more often when the screen was asleep. With this release, “lights off” performance should be as good as “lights on” performance for everybody.
  • The Kinoma Media Guide has been enhanced with fresher YouTube videos in more categories, and better scrolling performance in icon-rich categories.
  • A new play-once-and-stop playback mode stops playback when the current item has finished playing. This is useful whenever you just want to play one item, or if you want to replay an item without downloading it more than once.

Other improvements

  • Kinoma Player works better with Keyguard. The Palm OS Keyguard feature used to interrupt playback until it was dismissed. Now Kinoma Player defers Keyguard while actively playing media. This lets you quickly play other items and avoid unnecessary rebuffering and audio glitches.
  • Previously it was possible to paste URLs with illegal “hidden” characters into the Open URL dialog box, preventing Kinoma Player from opening the URL even though it looked fine to humans. With this release, the Open URL dialog has been enhanced to automatically remove bad characters in URLs.
  • Kinoma Player now periodically checks to see if an update is available on Palm Centro and Palm Treo phones, Palm LifeDrives and Palm T|Xs. You can still use the Check for Updates feature, but you’ll probably never have to.
  • Kinoma Player now always remembers whether you had Enable photo slideshow turned on or off.
