Kinoma Player 4 EX v4.3 now available

This update is free for Kinoma Player 4 EX customers. If you don’t yet have Kinoma Player, you can buy it here or upgrade from Kinoma Player 3 here.

How to update

If your Palm smartphone or handheld has an internet connection, just choose Check for updates from the Media menu. Otherwise, you can update from your PC.

Here’s a roundup of the new features:

More compatible and reliable

  • This release includes workarounds for ususual network behavior that prevented some Sprint customers from being able to stream podcasts and other media.
  • This release adds support for RTP/RTSP streaming over UDP for AT&T customers. Since UDP is a more efficient low-level protocol than TCP for realtime streaming, this will often result in better streaming performance.
  • This release enhances Kinoma Player’s RSS/XML feed support, supporting more types of media feeds.
  • This release includes enhanced JPEG network camera (webcam) support, improving compatibility with more camera models. Additionally, this release supports an optional refresh interval for network cameras/webcams that deliver still images.

Authentication support

  • Kinoma Player now supports basic HTTP authentication, allowing you to access feeds and media that require a username and password. Kinoma Player will automatically display a browser-like password dialog as necessary, and it also supports credentials embedded directly in URLs (i.e. http://username:password@site.com/feed/).

Proxy support

  • Kinoma Player 4 EX v4.3 now supports an optional HTTP proxy, which you can specify in the Streaming Preferences dialog.
